BITS Pilani and ICAR-IASRI conducted 4th Indian Workshop on Applied Deep Learning(IWADL) in hybrid mode at Goa. 100+ offline and 90+ online participants benefited from the programme. NARES-BLP platform has usefully employed in this training programme.

Organized 4th Indian Workshop on Applied Deep Learning(IWADL): BITS Pilani in Collaboration with ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi

The 4th Indian Workshop on Applied Deep Learning(IWADL), hosted at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani K K Birla Goa campus from June 12-16, 2023, was organized jointly by BITS Pilani, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and ICAR-Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (ICAR-IASRI) in blended learning format. Professor Phalguni Gupta, Vice Chancellor, GLA University; Dr. Rajender Parsad Director ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi; Dr. Navneet Goyal, Head, Computer Science Engineering Department, BITS Pilani;  Dr. Aditya Nigam, Head, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department, IIT Mandi; Dr. Kamlesh Tiwari, BITS Pilani and Convenor of IWADL 2023 and Dr. Sudeep Marwaha, PI NAHEP Component 2, ICAR-IASRI expressed their views about the importance of IWADL worhshop and National Agricultural Research and Education Sysyem-Blended Learning Platform  (NARES BLP) during the inagural session. NARES-BLP enabled  the researchers, experts, and enthusiasts in the field of deep learning to explore and learn the subject in a cohesive environment. Prominent researchers from various esteemed institutions and companies, including IIT Mandi, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, Harman DTS, Fujitsu, and Sahaj AI ffocuses on the application of deep learning architectures such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), Autoencoders, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Transformers, Diffusion models, and more. These architectures have shown great potential in addressing a wide range of problems in diverse domains such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, transportation, education, manufacturing, and entertainment.

The organization of IWADL’23 coupled with the ICAR Blended Learning Platform (BLP) platform brought 90+ online and 100+ physical participants together. Following are some of the highlights of the workshop:

  1. Total of 13 Nos of Trainer and 229 Nos of Learner Registered on the Main tenant of ICAR BLP ( https://icarblp.krishimegh.in)
  2. For five days, 90+ Participants attended virtual/online classes of the IWADL workshop 2023 using the ICAR BLP platform.
  3. Three Assessments ( Quiz 1 , 2 and 3) were successfully conducted over the ICAR BLP platform. 190+ Participants successfully attempted assessment over the ICAR BLP platform.
  4. Customisation Email sent for all users for registration purposes.
  5. Throughout the workshop, optimal and flawless video-conferencing performance was observed.
  6. IWADL workshop Feedback taken via ICAR BLP Platform.
  7. Learners expressed their satisfaction on the topics covered and practical exercises given to understand the actual applications of deep learning.

Dr. Suman Kundu, Director BITS Pilani K K Birka Campus was the chief guest during the valedictory session. He shared his happiness to be associated as host institution for the workshop and emphasized greater collaboration among the participating institutions.
